The small town of Newark can be found within Worcester County, halfway between Berlin and Snow Hill and within a short drive to the beaches of Ocean City and Assateague Island.
This charming town is home to the Queponco Railway Station, a historic United States railway station located on Patey Woods Road. Built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1910, the Queponco Railway Station served Snow Hill, Berlin and Newark communities. Due to the lack of demand for passenger service use of the depot dwindled in the 1960's and the building was sold by the Pennsylvania Railroad to a private citizen who used it for storage purposes. Queponco Station today sits as a symbol of earlier times when the railroad was a vital part of the daily life of the people of the Eastern Shore.
In 1991 a group of local citizens formed the Queponco Railway Station Inc. to repair and preserve the old railway station. The mission of this group is to save the station and to preserve the heritage of the village of Newark and the railroad. In 1996 the Queponco Railway Station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The station is open to the public during the 1st and 3rd Saturday of May through October from 1:00 - 4:00 and by appointment during the remainder of the year.
Newark is also proud to house the Worcester Technical High School, where the motto is Teaching the Whole Student. Students there have received regional, state, and national recognition for skill and leadership performance. Together, students, parents, and teachers set high expectations for students to achieve academically, technically, and socially.
