Just a short drive to Ocean City and Assateague Island National Seashore, the town of Berlin is in the crossroads of the heart of Worcester County. Travel into history with a stroll down Main Street, following the same route taken by the Assateague and Pocomoke Indians well before the colonial period.
Today the town is a great example of what can be done when citizens work together for the success of their community. The renovation of the town center and the historic preservation of the commercial and residential districts are a result of the cooperative efforts of citizens, merchants, and town government officials and staff. Berlin's beautiful tree-lined streets, Victorian town center, museum, art galleries and historic homes offer so much for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Berlin is home to nearly 50 well-preserved or renovated buildings noted in the National Register of Historic Places and represent nearly two centuries of architectural heritage that date from the Federal, Victorian, and 20th Century periods. Visitors can learn more about the town’s history at the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum, a restored early nineteenth century house located in Berlin's National Register Historic District.
The town has such charm that it was the setting for two major motion pictures – Runaway Bride starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, and Tuck Everlasting starring Sissy Spacek and William Hurt. The town is also an Arts and Entertainment district, offering tax incentives to attract artists and arts and entertainment enterprises. About 4,000 residents live in Berlin year-round.
